Are journalism degrees real?

August 29, 2016

The media can be pretty funny.  Take the Sun.  It has a report with the headline:

ENEMY IN THE RANKS

German army reveals more than 60 ISIS militants have secretly joined its ranks

Senior military officials said all applicants should now be screened by the intelligence services for jihadist links

But that’s not the funny part. That part is just sad.  This is the funny part.

“The German Army trains all of its members in the handling and usage of weapons of war,” a leaked report said, “[terrorists] could use those skills acquired in the army to carry out well-prepared acts of violence at home or abroad.”

Umm.  No shit, it’s the ARMY….. I doubt most people would need a “leaked report”, to deduce this little fact. The “weapons of War”, part is hilarious.  I wonder if the German Army is trained in the Battle Axe, because that is a really cool weapon of war.

And yes Germany, you might want to screen your Military applicants a bit.  Not that you’d be allowed to ask them tough questions though. Just like us Americans. We all must be sensitive.

Note:  I’ve worked with the Bundeswehr and found most of them pretty competent.  Unfortunately, for the most part, they were not allowed to fight in Afghanistan.

The Clinton Saga (Clinton Foundation)

August 24, 2016

The AP just dropped a report that over half of Hillary Clinton’s meeting as Secretary of State were with people who gave large sums of money to her foundation.  (Braun & Sullivan, 2016)

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than half the people outside the government who met with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state gave money — either personally or through companies or groups — to the Clinton Foundation. It’s an extraordinary proportion indicating her possible ethics challenges if elected president.

At least 85 of 154 people from private interests who met or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton while she led the State Department donated to her family charity or pledged commitments to its international programs, according to a review of State Department calendars released so far to The Associated Press. Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million.

This is no surprise of course, but it’s nice to see the AP actually looked at something. What you will hear people say is that there is still no direct evidence that there was pay to play.  Of course who in their right mind would write in an email, “hey give me money and I’ll see you.”  Hillary may not be a genius but she has this part of corruption figured out.  There most likely will not be any direct evidence and without that, this Justice Department will not do a thing.  It is truly up to the voting public.  While Donald Trump may not be what we look to for in a President, Hillary, is not ethically qualified for the Presidency.

What Difference Does it Make

What is going on at Fox News?

August 23, 2016
Since the fall out of Gretchen Carlson claiming sexual harassment I’ve noticed a number of other Fox News contributors leave the network.  This isn’t the group that said they would leave if Roger Ailes left but others that up until recently I hadn’t heard much from.  The latest Andrea Tantaros, like Gretchen Carlson, has filed suit.

 Andrea Tantaros

“Fox News masquerades as a defender of traditional family values, but behind the scenes, it operates like a sex-fueled, Playboy Mansion-like cult, steeped in intimidation, indecency and misogyny,” the lawsuit reads.(Kanter, 2016)

Kirstin Powers has also moved to CNN although I haven’t heard of any harassment suits yet.

alisynAnd finally, Alisyn Camerota and Mary Katharine Ham have also joined CNN.  What’s up?

Well as I sit in Colorado and not NY, DC or LA, I don’t have a clue.
But I  do have some thoughts.

If what Gretchen and Andrea say is true, it’s not a surprise to lose some young talent who simply won’t play the game.  I’m not saying it is true, though. I liked Gretchen.  She seemed pretty straight forward and I also liked Andrea.  I’ll be looking for them wherever they land.

Kirkirstensten, I hold some hope for. While a liberal she often thinks and comes to the correct conclusion.  I wish she’d avoid politics. She was able to see the left’s attack on free speech however.

Camerota was another straight forward personality.

While there may or may not be something to the sexual harassment issues, I don’t trust most of these cases, I do wish Fox News would stop with the short dresses on all the women and go more for the smart, investigative type reporters instead of making them all look like they are just eye candy.

Fox has fallen like the rest, into a news channel with very little news and mostly commentary.  Can we not just get information and leave the sound bites alone?
Probably not.  But I sure would love to see some decent news channels in the US someday.  At this point, none of them impress me.

The real shame is that with 24 hours news channels and lots of time to fill, there could be some great in-depth reports on many subjects.  But those reports are instead few and far between.

I find most of the deeper journalism in foreign or independent news outlets and blogs.  While they may also be biased they are usually honestly so.

The Republican Party fighting Repbulicans

August 9, 2016

Who voted for Donald Trump in the primaries? Democrats? Independents? There is a system in place for primaries. The Political Parties this year have shown they don’t care one bit about your actual vote. They care about their personal agendas.

Whether you like Donald Trump or not he won the Republican nomination. Yet the elites in the Republican Party are doing their very best to elect Hillary Clinton, the Democrat. Nice going guys. You see to them, you, the American people Republican or Democrat are not smart enough to elect a candidate. They will select them for you.

The latest is the letter from 5o former national security wonks that have stomped their feet and are holding their breath while saying they won’t vote for Trump. Well, who gives a shit what these people think? Many of the people are the same people who allowed the Bush administration (I happen to like Bush) to disband the Iraqi Army, institute dangerous rules of engagement on our troops and let victory slip from their hands. On the national security front, they led the fight to create an overarching, bureaucratic monstrosity of the Department of Homeland Security. One of the most useless agencies we have.

Are we are expected to listen to these turds?

I was not a Donald Trump supporter during the primaries but I’m sure as hell not a supporter of former bullshit artists either. At least Donald is current.

Fight against ISIS? 1 tank and 2 vehicles!

August 1, 2016

Headline: US opens new front against ISIS with airstrikes in Libya

"I don’t want to predict the pace" of any future strikes, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters at a news briefing. He denied the U.S. was leading from behind, describing the strikes as "providing military support for a partner on the ground."

Fayez Serraj, the head of the U.N.-brokered presidency council, said in a televised statement that American warplanes attacked the ISIS bastion of Sirte, "causing major casualties," adding that no U.S. ground forces were deployed. The precision strikes targeted an ISIS tank and two vehicles, officials said.

I sure hope the attacks didn’t waste million dollar munitions on just one tank and two vehicles.  Although, it wouldn’t be a surprise.

Melania Trump modeled nude, do models do that?

August 1, 2016

The latest attack on the Trumps appears to be that Melania was a model. Of course we all know that.  So what’s the big deal. Well the NY Post seems to think it’s a big deal.  The Post decided to print some nude or semi-nude photos Melania had done years ago. I don’t know if the Rupert Murdoch owned Post did this to hurt Trump or help him.  The “conservative right” and the left have jumped on this.  How dare Trump marry such a harlot?  I know, it seems silly even writing that but it’s funny how the conservative right and the left seem so in tune at times.  Hummm…

Well for us rec blooded American men we say, “nice going Trump.”

I don’t think this hurts Trump at all.  He knows his wife and her past and so do we.  He seems quite proud of her and why not?

So, once again Trump will get more press coverage

This kind of goes along with my previous post where German nudist were threatened.  Maybe this is a Trump attack on radical Islam?
